What
What is k-pdt.net? Basically, we provide a home for artists of all kinds and their various projects. We are not limited to music; here you'll find everything from literature to computer programs.We hope to promote free speech, the exchange of new ideas, Open Source ideals and free music. We don't use advertising, instead relying mainly on word-of-mouth. This way, it is more likely that those who are interested will find us. This is the opposite of spending money on mass marketing, which is seen as a futile hope since most of those people will not find enjoyment in the same things we do.
Art
Our artistic philosophies are primarily rooted in punk. We are very interested in experimenting with the limits of reality and consciousness, and are not afraid of the unpleasant nor the unknown. Instead, we are fascinated by them because we realize that society and humankind can only evolve when creative people push the boundaries of what is considered possible.Many of the artists we are associated with are heavily influenced by musics like industrial, noise, and jazz. The free-form and the abstract are considered to be of great importance. Deviation from the status quo is the status quo.
Technical
The origins of K-PDT begin with impossibly high expectations. Eventually, these high expectations were replaced with common sense, and even later this common sense was replaced with the high expectations coming to fruition.Originally it started off as a sort of personal site for defaultxr--and in some ways that hasn't changed--but since then, the network has grown to include many new artists and friends.
The original design of the site (back in 2005) was ugly and overcomplicated, and since that time it has gone through many changes, each remake better than the last. It began as a series of static HTML pages updated manually, then was a series of PHP scripts cobbled together, and slowly but surely these scripts were replaced by 100% handwritten code. All that you now see before you was made from scratch by defaultxr.
Now, k-pdt.net runs on PHP and MySQL, and most pages are either programmed in PHP or stored in the database for easy editing (like this one!). K-PDT is no longer updated by hand. For more information on just what the database encompasses on this site, check out the Stats page.
We recommend Opera for your browsing, since it is fast, free, and standards-compliant. Though most browsers render the site fairly well, we recommend against the use of Internet Explorer, as it often lags behind in accepted standards, thus limiting our ability to present our information to you optimally.
Future
K-PDT is constantly evolving and being upgraded to do more and do it better. We have a roadmap planned out to keep track of our goals and future developments.Details
When spelling "K-PDT", we prefer that you either use all capitals or all lowercase, though the dash may be omitted.
